Do I need to be hospitalised for acute myocarditis?

Patients with acute myocarditis usually require hospitalisation as acute myocarditis is prone to severe arrhythmias, acute heart failure and cardiogenic shock, and even death, requiring first aid treatment. Patients with heart failure conditions need to be treated with drugs such as diuretics, vasodilators and ACEIs. For those with combined tachyarrhythmias, antiarrhythmic drugs can be used and if there is a high degree of AV block, a temporary pacemaker can be considered. In addition to this, patients should be given strict bed rest and a light, high-protein diet to promote recovery.
