In our daily outpatient clinics, we always encounter such patients – young women who complain of panic, chest tightness, shortness of breath, chest pain, breath-holding, some even say there is a fire in their chest and it goes down to the top of their head, some are accompanied by sweating, and they have the urge to have a bowel movement. In short, the symptoms they describe at the onset are very detailed, but usually have no obvious trigger and can last up to several hours or even a day before relieving. Most of them have visited different departments in different hospitals several times and have undergone many tests (from head to toe), all of which are normal or slightly abnormal (not really of much clinical significance). The symptoms are repeated, tormenting yourself and your family. At this time, the diagnosis of “cardiac neurosis” should be considered. This disease is characterized by chest tightness, breathlessness, panic, palpitations, and even chest and back pain, all due to autonomic dysfunction of the heart, without any particular organic problem of the heart itself (which must be excluded by examination). In addition, it can also cause manifestations in other systems, such as nausea and diarrhea in the digestive system, and frequent urinary urgency in the urinary system. It is more likely to occur in menopausal women, high school level white-collar workers, middle-aged and elderly people with empty nests, post-stroke patients with heart attacks, and even in certain adolescents. Once a diagnosis of cardiac neurosis is considered, intervention is needed in the following areas: 1. Ask if there is anything bothering them recently, open their hearts and listen to them, which will help to relieve the symptoms. 2, cultivate hobbies, divert attention and make their lives full, which is conducive to reducing attacks. 3, if the symptoms seriously affect the life, study and work, the need for drug treatment intervention, mainly sedative drugs, anti-anxiety drugs, etc.. In addition, certain Chinese medicines also have a therapeutic effect.
