Older people have a slower metabolism than when they were younger, produce less sebum and have a weaker moisture barrier than when they were younger.
When excessive hand washing, or excessive exposure to chemicals, the hand’s inherently thin sebum layer may be damaged, causing poorly moisturised skin on the hands and triggering palm peeling. If the sebaceous film is severely damaged or if it is accompanied by dry weather, etc., it may even cause dry dermatitis, with discomfort such as dryness, cracking, pain and redness.
