Can you take uric acid-lowering medication for moderate fatty liver?

Moderate fatty liver is not a contraindication to uric acid-lowering drugs, and moderate fatty liver can take uric acid-lowering drugs if there is no drug allergy or other contraindications.
Common uric acid-lowering drugs include allopurinol, febuxostat, benzbromarone, probenecid and so on. Among them, allopurinol and febuxostat’s mechanism of action is to inhibit the production of uric acid, and benzbromarone and probenecid’s mechanism of action is to promote the excretion of uric acid.
Patients who are using mercaptopurine or azathioprine are contraindications to febuxostat drug therapy.
For patients with moderate fatty liver, it is recommended to improve liver function tests, if liver function is normal or mild to moderate damage, generally do not need to adjust the dose of uric acid-lowering drugs.
If liver function is severely impaired, it is recommended to first carry out liver-protecting treatment, and then fully assess the pros and cons, choose the timing of uric acid-lowering drug therapy, and use the drug under the guidance of the doctor.
