Neonatal scalp hematoma is caused by the rupture of small blood vessels under the skull periosteum and the accumulation of blood in the local area. Neonatal scalp hematoma occurs mostly in neonates with obstructed labor, fetal head extraction, forceps assisted delivery, and occasionally in neonates with normal delivery. In the past, we had no special treatment, and most of them absorbed on their own within 2 weeks to 3 months under normal circumstances. In the past 2 years, our department has used Yunnan Baiyao plus 50% alcohol wet compresses to treat neonatal scalp hematoma with good results. The results are reported below. 1. Data and methods 1.1 General data From February 2003 to December 2005, 54 cases of neonatal scalp hematoma occurred in obstructed labor using fetal head aspiration assisted delivery in net delivery, and they were randomly divided into 27 cases each in the observation group and the control group. The mean scalp hematoma was 3.1 cm×4.2 cm×2.2 cm, and there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of age, scalp hematoma size and mode of delivery assistance. 1.2 Methods 1.2.1 Treatment The observation group used Yunnan Baiyao 4g plus 50% alcohol 10ml to mix and apply a layer of gauze to cover the affected area, keeping the gauze moist and changing it twice a day. The control group had no special treatment and was allowed to absorb by itself. 1.2.2 Evaluation methods and criteria Cranial and subperiosteal small blood vessel rupture, bleeding, blood pooling in the local formation of a hematoma as a neonatal scalp hematoma. The degree of reduction was observed and recorded every morning, and the hematoma was cured by the disappearance of its size. Yunnan Baiyao has the effect of activating blood circulation, resolving blood stasis, reducing swelling, relieving pain, dilating local capillaries, and preventing blood clotting and thrombosis at the injury site. The topical application can achieve the effect of pain relief, blood circulation, elimination of blood stasis and draining of meridians. 50% alcohol has the effect of dispersing blood stasis and relieving pain, stopping bleeding, regulating qi and dilating blood vessels, which can promote blood circulation and speed up the absorption and dispersion of drugs, and can be completely absorbed in 1 week under the action of drugs. This method has fast effect, high cure rate, convenient material, low price and easy operation, so it can be widely used.
