What is the significance of “head preservation” treatment of femoral head necrosis!

The collapse rate of femoral head necrosis is very high, with about 80% of untreated cases collapsing within one to four years and about 87% of femoral heads having a two-year interval from the onset of collapse to the need for total hip replacement. Hip replacement has unparalleled short-term results! However, the medium and long-term results and complications after hip replacement are worrying. With the current technology, the service life of ceramic total hip is 15-20 years on average, and some young hip replacement patients will have to face more than 2 artificial joint revisions in their lifetime, which brings a huge mental and economic burden to both patients and society. Therefore, preserving one’s own hip joint is the preferred goal for young and middle-aged patients, and head preservation has great practical significance.
