Yellow eyes in a newborn baby are a sign of pathological jaundice. Physiological jaundice usually appears in 4-7 days, mainly because the fetus needs more red blood cells to take in oxygen when it is in the mother’s body. When it is delivered from the mother, the extra red blood cells decompose themselves and produce a large amount of bilirubin, which exceeds the uptake capacity of the liver and is deposited on the skin, mucous membrane or sclera, forming a yellowish stain that appears yellow to the naked eye. It is necessary for the doctor to perform the necessary tests and treat it in time to avoid the occurrence of bilirubin encephalopathy.
