What to do when tonsils are inflamed with pus

When there is pus on the surface of the tonsils, it means that purulent tonsillitis or tonsillar abscess has occurred, which is usually caused by bacterial infection. Proper use of sensitive antibiotics is the main treatment method. Penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics are the first choice, and according to the severity of the disease, different methods of administration are chosen. The pus is sent to bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test as soon as possible to clarify the type of bacteria, and the most sensitive antibiotics are changed according to the test results. If medication is ineffective and unilateral progressive aggravation occurs, or if there is restricted mouth opening or difficulty in swallowing, it is likely that the abscess will break out to form a peri-tonsillar abscess, which should be incised and drained as soon as possible so that the symptoms can be effectively controlled and serious complications can be prevented.
