Presbyopia and astigmatism are two different refractive states, and if both conditions exist in the eye, they need to be treated separately. Because presbyopia is due to the decreasing adjustment ability of the lens after ageing, the adjustment ability of the eye is also decreasing, and a decrease in near vision occurs. This is generally manifested as difficulty in reading at close range, preferring to put the target far away when reading, feeling clearer and more comfortable. The correction of presbyopia can be done by wearing presbyopic glasses to improve near vision. Astigmatism, on the other hand, is due to irregularities in the shape of the cornea, which causes a decrease in distance vision and blurred vision when looking at distant places. The correction of astigmatism is mainly through frame glasses, corneal contact lenses or refractive surgery to improve distance vision.
