Obesity is a latent killer that triggers heart disease. Obesity is associated with the development of many diseases and is an independent risk factor for hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and diabetes. In obesity, excess fat accumulates in the body, increasing circulating blood volume and causing increased cardiac load and hypertension. The abnormal fat metabolism in obesity and the hyperlipidaemia caused by high calorie intake lead to coronary atherosclerosis and vascular plaque. As a result, obese patients are more likely to get vascular plaque than normal people.
