Renal colic is mainly caused by ureteral obstruction due to urinary stones. Longer obstruction may result in the formation of localised fluid, which may aggravate the local inflammatory response and thus cause fever. In addition, if there is an associated infection or abscess, symptoms such as high fever and chills may occur and require prompt medical attention.
