How long does it take to recover from a cold?

The duration of the cold is related to the type of pathogenic bacteria and the patient’s own resistance. Usually the course of common viral colds is 3-5 days and bacterial colds about 1 week. If the infection is not well controlled and there are complications, the duration of treatment will be extended to 2 weeks or even more. The common cold usually requires no special treatment and is a self-limiting disease, which can be fully recovered in 3-5 days. Influenza, on the other hand, has a longer duration and may last 1-2 weeks. Bacterial colds, if detected in time and actively treated, can usually improve in about 7 days. In case of pneumonia, those with mild symptoms can be cured in about 7-10 days through symptomatic treatment. However, most of the critically ill people, especially those with low immunity, need to undergo a course of treatment for more than 2 weeks. Therefore, it is recommended for cold patients to take rest, drink warm water and keep indoor ventilation. At the same time, pay attention to a light diet, avoid staying up late, pay attention to regular work and rest, and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits to improve the immunity of the body.
