The level of myopia in children and adolescents is directly determined by the ability of parents to objectively perceive and correctly respond to myopia. Without an objective understanding of myopia, it is impossible to take early scientific and effective measures to deal with myopia. Objective understanding of myopia includes an understanding of the underlying causes of myopia as well as the mechanisms and characteristics of myopia. The root cause of myopia is the excessive use of eyes at close range, such as improper sitting for homework, playing mobile games and computers, rather than wearing glasses, as is often believed. The vast majority of true myopia is axial myopia, which means that the eye axis becomes longer, and once the eye axis becomes longer, it is impossible to shorten it through the so-called treatment in society. The most important feature of myopia in adolescents is the growth in the number of degrees until the age of 18, which is the most frightening aspect of myopia. The first thing to understand about myopia is that there is no effective treatment for true myopia, but it is possible to control or slow down the development of myopia, and the earlier the control method is used, the better, otherwise it will develop to a very high degree in just a few years, especially in children who are myopic before the age of eight. It is the parents’ responsibility if they miss the opportunity to keep myopia at a low level. As doctors at the city eye hospital, we have been working hard to find better ways to treat myopia so that every child can have clear and bright eyes, and we hope that more parents will learn more about myopia, pay more attention to myopia, have more trust in us, and work together for their children’s eyes.
