Must labor be induced if the amniocentesis is abnormal?

Abnormal amniocentesis test results do not necessarily require induction of labor. It depends on the patient’s wishes and the severity of the condition. 1. Inducement of labor is recommended: Amniocentesis is considered to be the current gold standard for diagnosing chromosomal genetic disorders in fetuses, so if it is diagnosed as high risk, it means that there is a high chance that the fetus is abnormal. If both husband and wife are relatively young and are pregnant for the first time, in the interest of eugenics and in the spirit of considering all aspects of the child, the family and the society, induction of labor may be considered. 2. Continuing the pregnancy: If the couple is older and has not yet given birth, and the desire to continue the pregnancy is very strong, it is recommended that they receive genetic counseling first to assess the intelligence and viability of the fetus after birth; if the chromosomal abnormality will only affect the child’s stature, not intelligence, and if the child does not carry any hereditary disease, then it can be considered that the pregnancy should be continued. It is recommended that pregnant women actively communicate with their specialists and make a rational choice based on the advice of the specialists.
