What percentage of diabetics have amputations

A survey in 2010 showed that diabetes-induced amputations accounted for 27.3% of all amputations in China’s tertiary hospitals and 56.5% of non-traumatic amputations. Diabetic foot is the most important cause of non-traumatic amputation in diabetic patients, and it is also one of the most serious and costly chronic complications of diabetes. Therefore, diabetic patients with long-term poor glycemic control who do not actively cooperate with treatment have a higher risk of amputation than non-diabetic patients. Therefore, diabetic patients should actively cooperate with the doctor’s treatment, follow the doctor’s instructions to regulate the injection of insulin and oral treatment with glucose-lowering drugs such as acarbose and glimepiride. In daily life, choosing low-salt, low-fat and low-sugar diet and adhering to regular aerobic exercise can effectively control blood glucose to reduce the incidence of amputation. Patients are advised to check their blood glucose regularly and go to the hospital if their blood glucose value is abnormal.
