Do endometrial polyps require surgery?

Many patients will take the ultrasound or hysteroscopy report and ask me: Doctor, I have a small polyp in my uterine cavity, can I not have surgery? Should a patient with a polyp be operated? In general, I would recommend surgery for non-functional polyps. About 3% of patients with uterine polyps will undergo degeneration, including precancerous and malignant changes; the incidence of precancerous and malignant changes increases significantly in patients with older age, menopause and polyps larger than 1.5 cm in diameter. For patients with fertility requirements, it is important to actively treat endometrial polyps because they can cause infertility or miscarriage.
