A survey published by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death among children aged 0-14 years in China, with more than 200,000 children aged 0-14 years dying of unintentional injuries each year, i.e., one out of every three deaths is due to unintentional injuries, and one out of every six children has suffered from unintentional injuries, with a total incidence rate of 16.5%. 1-4 years of age is the age group where most of the children suffer from unintentional injuries. The age group with the highest number of accidental injuries is 1-4 years old. Nearly half of the unintentional injuries to children occurred during recreational activities, followed by sports activities. Parents have very little knowledge and low awareness of how to prevent childhood accidental injuries, and only one-third of parents in a telephone survey believe that their children will have accidents at home. the average minimum cost of treatment for a year for each accidentally-injured child is 250 RMB. Calculated on the basis of the incidence rate of children’s accidental injuries in the three cities, the total treatment cost of children’s accidental injuries in each city in a year is 67.5 million RMB in Beijing, 62.5 million RMB in Shanghai and 82.5 million RMB in Guangzhou. In our normal life, we often encounter various kinds of accidental injuries. When parents are a little negligent, accidental injuries can easily occur, resulting in very serious consequences, some of which can be rapidly life-threatening, and some of which are not immediately life-threatening, but can leave lifelong disabilities if not handled properly. Unintentional injuries to children have become the leading cause of death among children aged 0 to 14, and 52% of all unintentional injuries occur at home. Fractures account for the majority of all accidental injuries, because the mobility of the pediatric population gradually strengthens with growth and development, and the likelihood of injury and fracture gradually increases.
