How long does it take for an egg cell to mature

Generally, it takes about 10 days for a woman’s follicles to fully develop. Follicles usually start to grow after menstruation and then grow at a rate of 1.5-2mm per day, reaching a diameter of 18-25mm to form a mature follicle, which is round or oval in shape. In the following 1-2 days, one dominant follicle is usually fully developed and ovulates, while the others undergo atresia and gradually degenerate by apoptosis. Mature follicles are a prerequisite for conception. If the follicles are underdeveloped, such as failing to grow to a normal size, failing to complete normal ovulation, or discharging eggs of poor quality, normal fertilization will not occur. If the examination reveals poor ovarian function, polycystic ovary syndrome, low follicle stimulating hormone, etc., it is recommended to go to the gynecology department in time to further improve the relevant examination, and then carry out targeted treatment.
