What are the symptoms of bipolar disorder

“In bipolar disorder, the clinical manifestation is a manic episode, or alternating depressive and manic episodes. A typical manic episode is characterised by the “three highs” of elevated mood, racing thoughts and increased volition, and is characterised by psychomotor excitement.
A typical depressive episode is characterised by depressed mood, delayed and pessimistic thinking, and reduced volitional behaviour, and is accompanied by reduced cognitive function and somatic symptoms, and is in a state of psychomotor inhibition.”
