Drug therapy for enuresis in adults

Adults with enuresis can be treated with medications such as desmopressin, scopolamine, and levofloxacin.
1. Desmopressin: The first-line drug currently recommended for the treatment of enuresis is desmopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone. It is especially suitable for patients with nocturnal polyuria. Patients should take the drug 1 hour before bedtime, and should restrict drinking water 1 hour before and 8 hours after taking the drug, and remind patients to empty their bladder before bedtime.
2. Anticholinergic drugs: this kind of drug can be chosen for patients with small bladder capacity or over-activity of forced urethra muscle, commonly used drugs include scopolamine. During the use of drugs, patients should pay attention to observe their urination, defecation, and whether accompanied by fever and other signs of secondary urinary tract infection, in order to adjust the treatment program.
3. Antibiotics: For patients with urinary tract infections that cause enuresis, levofloxacin, norfloxacin and other antibiotics can be given with the doctor’s advice for treatment.
