Diabetes mellitus is categorized under the TCM category of thirst-quenching disease. Wu Mei Pill is mainly used to treat ascariasis caused by the mixture of cold and heat (the presence of both cold and heat symptoms in the same patient), which is mostly ineffective in treating thirst-quenching disease.
Clinical evidence of thirst-quenching disease includes lung-heat and fluid injury (heat in the lungs, continuously depleting the body’s fluid), stomach-heat blazing, qi and yin deficiency (qi and yin deficiency), kidney yin deficiency, and yin and yang deficiency, which can be treated by using Thirst-quenching Formula, Jade Maiden Decoction, Shengzhong Drink with Qifeng Baijushu San, Six-flavored Digoxigenin Pill, and Jin Gui Kidney Qigong Pill, and other formulas, and Umei Pill is not used for the treatment of thirst-quenching disease.
