What is sleep apnea syndrome?

  Nighttime sleep snoring with apnea, getting up in the morning with dry mouth and headache, and always dozing off during the day may indicate a sleep breathing disorder, sleep apnea syndrome, which is a common and serious risk to human health. This disease can occur at night during sleep with recurrent collapse of the upper airway, and apnea. Sleep apnea makes people wake up repeatedly at night, sleep quality decreases, sleep deprivation, sleep time decreases, daytime sleepiness or even severe drowsiness; it can also lead to oxygen inhalation and metabolic waste carbon dioxide exhalation, and varying degrees of hypoxia and elevated carbon dioxide during sleep occur. Repeated lack of oxygen in the brain during sleep causes brain function damage; long-term repeated lack of oxygen can lead to the occurrence of many cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, renal and other chronic diseases, making physical function decline.  The signs and symptoms of sleep apnea syndrome are: excessive daytime sleepiness, nighttime insomnia, snoring, morning headache, increased nocturnal urination, intellectual and memory loss and sexual dysfunction, sudden death during sleep, causing hypertension, coronary heart disease, aggravation of diabetes and cerebrovascular disease, etc.  Therefore, please be alert to those who snore during sleep, apnea, and always doze off during the day, and should seek medical consultation as soon as possible to avoid further complications.
