Causes and treatment of amblyopia

The causes of amblyopia are many and are summarized as follows: pediatric strabismus, high hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism, congenital cataract, severe ptosis, and congenital optic center and optic nerve dysplasia. The prognosis for congenital and form-deprived amblyopia is poor; the prognosis for refractive error, strabismus, and refractive amblyopia is better. The key is early detection, timely and correct treatment, the majority of visual acuity can be improved, the possibility of obtaining normal vision is also large. The harm of amblyopia The harm of amblyopia to children’s visual function is much greater than myopia. Because myopia is only a loss of visual acuity when looking at the distance, not accompanied by other visual function damage, vision correction is not limited by age; while children with amblyopia not only have low vision, can not be corrected, it is impossible to have binocular monocular function, no stereo vision, and can not be competent for driving, mapping and fine work in the future. Treatment of amblyopia Factors affecting prognosis: family history, infantile disease, type of amblyopia, original visual acuity, refractive condition, type and degree of strabismus, age of first diagnosis and nature of gaze, etc. Whether amblyopia can be cured is related to many factors, among which the efficacy of amblyopia treatment is closely related to age; the younger the child, the better the treatment effect, and the treatment is hopeless in adults. This is because children’s visual function is unstable during their visual development, which means that amblyopia is easy to occur and easy to return to normal. Generally, after the age of 13, children’s visual function is already well developed, and if they are treated at this age, it is not easy to improve their visual acuity, and fine stereo vision cannot be established. Masking therapy Masking therapy is a simple and easy way to treat amblyopia and is recognized by domestic experts as the most effective way to treat amblyopia, either alone or with other training. It can be applied alone or in combination with other training methods. The specific method is to make a rectangular or oval eye patch out of black cloth. The blindfold is placed over the eye to be covered, and then the glasses are put on.
