Why are young children susceptible to vulvovaginitis?

There are several reasons why young children are prone to vulvovaginitis: 1. The vulva of young children is infantile, with thin mucous membranes, no folds, and labia majora that cannot cover the urethral opening and vaginal vestibule, making it easy for bacteria to invade; 2. The vaginal environment of young children is different from that of adults, due to low estrogen levels in the body, thin vaginal epithelial cells, little glycogen, vaginal pH 6-9, and low resistance, making them susceptible to other bacterial infections; 3. Poor hygiene habits, improper care, adjacent to the anus is easily contaminated by stool and easily unclean vulva; 4. Young girls are easy to put foreign objects in the vagina and do not inform their parents, which can easily cause reactive inflammation and soon secondary bacterial infection.
