Amblyopia
Amblyopia is one of the most common eye diseases in children. It is caused by abnormal visual development in childhood resulting in low vision in one or both eyes, which cannot reach normal vision even with proper glasses.
Common causes of amblyopia.
1. Refractive error (myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism).
2. Refractive aberration (large difference in refractive error between the eyes).
3, strabismus.
4, certain visual disorders: such as congenital ptosis, congenital cataract, corneal leukoma, etc.
Hazards of amblyopia.
Patients with amblyopia not only have poor visual acuity, but also do not have perfect binocular monovision and lack precise stereoscopic vision. Stereopsis is a necessary function for human beings to distinguish near and far and depth. A person without perfect stereopsis cannot do fine work well even if both eyes have normal vision.
Treatment of amblyopia.
Principle: Early detection and early treatment is the key. The earlier you receive treatment, the better the results.
1, dilated pupil examination, wearing suitable corrective glasses, which is the basis of amblyopia treatment, must emphasize the insistence on wearing glasses.
2.Covering the healthy eye (dominant eye) and forcing the use of the amblyopic eye; if both eyes are amblyopic, they can be covered alternately.
3, amblyopia training, including multifunctional amblyopia treatment device, CAM visual stimulation training, the same vision machine training, increasing visual energy training, etc.
Strabismus in children
Strabismus is commonly known as “squint”, as the name implies, the position of the eye is not correct, medically speaking, the eye’s visual axis is skewed, often manifested as internal strabismus, external strabismus, upward strabismus or downward strabismus, etc., mostly occurs in children, is one of the main children’s eye disease.
Hazards of strabismus.
1, affect the appearance.
2. The monocular function of both eyes cannot develop normally and cannot have good stereo vision.
3. Amblyopia can be formed.
4, strabismus can lead to crooked neck (i.e. ophthalmic squint), and in serious cases, it can also lead to deformity secondary to spinal curvature.
Obviously, the viewpoint of “children with strabismus are just unsightly, it is not a disease, when they grow up, they can have a cosmetic surgery and all the problems will be solved” is totally wrong.
Treatment of strabismus.
1, early treatment is the key, age more than 6 to 7 years old, can only be cosmetic and it is difficult to obtain normal binocular monocular function.
2, dilated pupil examination, with appropriate corrective glasses, this is the first step in the treatment of strabismus; there is a part of the internal strabismus must be corrected by wearing glasses, but not surgical treatment.
3.Surgical treatment, which is the most important means to correct strabismus.
4.Some strabismus patients who are not suitable for surgery can consider wearing traditional trigeminal lenses or new pressed trigeminal lenses for correction.
