What are the symptoms of jaundice?

Jaundice is a sign of high bilirubin levels. All factors that can cause an increase in bilirubin levels in the blood can cause jaundice, which is mainly manifested by yellow urine and yellow sclera and skin staining. The main causes of elevated bilirubin levels include excessive bilirubin production, impaired bilirubin excretion, and impaired bilirubin metabolism. Factors that can cause excessive bilirubin production include massive destruction of red blood cells and liver cell damage caused by acute hepatitis. Diseases that can cause obstruction of bilirubin discharge include bile duct stones, bile duct tumors, cholangitis, tumors of the jugular abdomen, and cancer of the pancreatic head. Impaired bilirubin metabolism is mainly caused by liver diseases, genetic metabolic diseases, etc. All these diseases can eventually manifest as jaundice. The clinical manifestations of jaundice accompanying symptoms vary according to the primary disease, and the treatment of jaundice also requires different treatments according to the different primary diseases. When jaundice is detected, you should actively seek medical attention, perform liver function and hepatobiliary ultrasound examinations, and take measures for comprehensive treatment after determining the primary disease.
