The vast majority of enterocolitis has a good prognosis and can be cured clinically with systematic treatment, but individual cases cannot be excluded where the condition deteriorates for various reasons affecting life expectancy. Enteritis is a very general clinical term that includes a variety of diseases, the most common being bacterial enteritis, as well as tuberculous enteritis, viral enteritis, and fungal enteritis. Certain conditions can cause serious and even life-threatening pathologies, such as severe and uncontrollable diarrhea and failure to replenish fluids and ions as soon as possible, which can easily lead to dehydration and ionic disturbances that can be life-threatening. There are also patients with serious underlying diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, which can be life-threatening due to an episode of enterocolitis.
