What to do about hypothyroidism

Simply put, hypothyroidism is a disease caused by functional degeneration of the thyroid gland. It is caused by a decrease in the synthesis and secretion of thyroxine or a physiological deficiency in its supply, resulting in a decrease in the body’s metabolism. At this stage, hypothyroidism is mainly treated with drug replacement therapy, but there is no effective method to cure it completely. Depending on the cause of hypothyroidism, different treatment measures can be taken. The conventional treatment for hypothyroidism in clinical practice is thyroid hormone replacement. The most commonly used medication is levothyroxine, which is commonly known as eugenol. The dosage is usually tailored to the patient’s hypothyroid condition. Therefore, the patient must strictly follow the doctor’s instructions and should not change the dosage or stop taking it at will. Once hypothyroidism is diagnosed, most patients will need to take medication for life to replace it. However, if hypothyroidism progresses to an advanced stage, in addition to lifelong replacement therapy with thyroid preparations, it should be treated symptomatically with oxygen, fluids, infection control, and heart failure control. Patients with hypothyroidism should also pay more attention to rest in their daily life and should not engage in heavy physical labor. For patients with very dry skin, they need to take daily baths with warm water or apply oil on top of the skin to prevent dryness and flaking.
