Precautions for radiotherapy

  1.Patients must have a clear diagnosis before radiation therapy, and there should generally be a pathological or cytological diagnosis.  2.Before radiation therapy should be based on lesion site, pathological type, infiltration range, patient’s age and general condition to decide whether to use radical radiotherapy or palliative radiotherapy or symptomatic radiotherapy.  3.Do the ideological work of patients before radiation therapy, eliminate the tension, cooperate closely and complete the treatment plan successfully.  4.For those who are in poor general condition, during radiotherapy, food with high protein, high calorie and high vitamin can be supplemented, while Chinese herbal medicines are given to benefit qi and blood, nourish yin and produce fluid to improve the immunity of the body.  5.During radiotherapy, radiotherapists should closely observe the local reaction and systemic reaction of patients, adopt the treatment method of combining Chinese and Western medicine, and timely treat the symptoms.  6.For head and neck tumor irradiation field including oral cavity, teeth should be cleaned and unhealthy teeth should be extracted beforehand, and radiotherapy should be given only after the traumatic surface is healed.  7.The irradiation field should be kept clean and avoid physical and chemical stimulation.  8.Radiotherapy is prohibited for those who have advanced cancer combined with anemia, wasting and in cachexia.  9. Radiotherapy should be used cautiously when the organ where the tumor is located is likely to be perforated.  10. Radiotherapy is prohibited for those who have serious damage to heart, liver and kidney.  11.Serious systemic infection, sepsis and septicemia are not controlled, radiotherapy is prohibited.  12.Radiation therapy is prohibited for those who have had radiotherapy in the past and whose skin or local tissues and organs have been severely damaged and are not allowed to have radiotherapy again.  13.Patients with hematocrit lower than 80g/L, white blood cell lower than 3.0×109/L and platelet lower than 5.0×109/L before treatment should use radiotherapy with caution.  14.After the completion of radiotherapy, regular review and long-term follow-up should be conducted to observe the efficacy and long-term adverse effects.
