Normal amylase values for pancreatitis

The normal value of amylase set by each hospital machine may deviate slightly. According to the 9th edition of Diagnostics, the normal value of blood amylase is 35 to 135 U/L, 24-hour urine amylase is <1000 U/L, and amylase may be higher than normal at specific times in pancreatitis. Amylase is mainly from the pancreas and parotid gland, and its elevation helps in the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis and differential diagnosis of acute abdomen. Due to the short half-life of amylase (about 2 hours), blood amylase increases early and lasts for a short time when pancreatic lesions occur, while urine amylase increases late and lasts for a long time. Clinically, blood amylase is the main diagnostic basis, and urine amylase is used as a reference. In acute pancreatitis, serum amylase generally begins to increase in 6 to 12 hours after the onset of the disease, peaks in 12 to 72 hours, and returns to normal in 3 to 5 days. Usually, the more obvious amylase increase, the more serious pancreatic tissue damage. If you find amylase changes in the examination, you must pay attention to it and go to the local regular hospital for further diagnosis and treatment in time.
