Can acute otitis media cause perforation of the eardrum?

Acute suppurative otitis media is a kind of acute otitis media, and its lesion is mainly located in the tympanic chamber. In the early stage, the mucous membrane of the tympanic chamber becomes congested and edematous, capillaries dilate, and red blood cells and so on may seep out from the vessels to form fluid and collect in the tympanic chamber. After the fluid accumulation reaches a certain level, the tympanic membrane is ischemic due to pressure, which eventually leads to local rupture, perforation, and outflow of pus.
