There is a clear trend towards an increase in the incidence of tuberculosis worldwide. Spinal tuberculosis is one of the most common extrapulmonary tuberculosis diseases. Our hospital, as an all-army tuberculosis institute and an all-army orthopedic center, has been a leader in the admission of spinal tuberculosis in China. Drug therapy is the most important part of spinal tuberculosis treatment. Open surgery is only indicated for severe cases with large dead bones, abscesses, bone destruction affecting stability and nerve compression. Our hospital has accumulated a wealth of clinical cases in the surgical treatment of spinal tuberculosis. In recent years, the Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Department of our All-Army Orthopedic Center has done a lot of useful work on spinal bone diseases including spinal tuberculosis. Can spinal tuberculosis be treated with minimally invasive foraminoplasty? The answer is yes. There are many cases of spinal tuberculosis that do not have large pieces of dead bone, abscesses, or heavy bone destruction, or where the inflammation or abscesses are limited to the intervertebral space or vertebral body, and vertebral collapse is not obvious. With the current intervertebral foraminoscopy technology, the working cannula can reach the intervertebral space, the spinal canal and the vertebral body, and the above lesions can be cleaned up under the foraminoscope without affecting the stability of the spine, so there is no need for internal fixation treatment. Minimally invasive foraminoscopic surgery allows early diagnosis, shortens the course of the disease, reduces the patient’s pain, and allows the patient to return to work as soon as possible. We have performed many such cases with good results.
