The presence or absence of pregnancy is first determined by the presence or absence of a history of menopause, combined with a blood and urine hCG test and ultrasound. A positive hCG and a visible embryo or foetus on ultrasound means that the bleeding is pregnant. If pregnancy is excluded, the bleeding will be irregular vaginal bleeding or menstruation.
