Dental filling, called “filling treatment”, is a treatment method that uses filling materials to repair the defects of dental tissues caused by caries, trauma, etc., and restore its shape and chewing function. At present, the most commonly used filling material is light-curing composite resin, which has the advantages of beautiful color, non-conducting hot and cold stimulation and good bonding. For small and shallow cavities, it is relatively simple to fill and there is usually no discomfort after filling. If the cavity is deeper and larger, usually the caries is closer to the pulp (nerve), the patient may feel discomfort not only when the doctor grinds away the decayed tissue, but also occasionally there will be slight discomfort of hot and cold stimulation after filling. This is the normal reaction of the pulp after being stimulated, usually no treatment is needed, and the symptoms will gradually disappear on their own after about 2-3 weeks. During this period, try not to eat food that is too cold or too hot to avoid stimulating the pulp. If the tooth becomes significantly worse or if the pain is severe without any stimulation, you should seek further treatment from a doctor as soon as possible. The composite resin material is bonded to the tooth with a special adhesive, so you can usually eat and brush normally after the filling treatment. However, if the tooth defect is large, you should try not to use the affected tooth to chew hard food after filling treatment in order to prolong the use of the filling material. Once the tooth decay occurs, it proves that your oral environment is suitable for the occurrence of tooth decay. The decayed part of the tooth is repaired by filling, but if you do not pay attention to the oral cleaning, the remaining teeth can still continue to develop caries. Therefore, the daily hygiene care of the oral cavity is extremely crucial, you should pay attention to brush your teeth effectively every morning and evening, rinse your mouth after meals, floss your teeth every day, and have oral examination regularly every year.
