Blepharoplasty is one of the earliest and most common surgeries to appear in our country. The reason for this is the very large single-lid population among Asians, and the fact that after blepharoplasty surgery, it is often possible to achieve wide-open eyes that are more attractive and dynamic, which is the reason why so many young women choose blepharoplasty. After decades of development, there is a wide variety of surgical methods for eyelid surgery, with close to a hundred methods receiving coverage in various professional journals, which undoubtedly makes most candidates hesitate to choose a surgical method. This article will answer this confusion. At present, the blepharoplasty methods used in China’s major cosmetic surgery institutions can be summarized into three, the buried line method, the incision method and the Korean style blepharoplasty. The next three methods are introduced respectively: the submerged line method The submerged line method is the least traumatic surgical operation, is through the suture connecting the skin and the lower eyelid tissues to form the double eyelid crease. Due to the low trauma of the surgery, the recovery time is fast, usually within 1 week, and there is no scarring after the surgery. However, because the subcutaneous tissue of the upper eyelid has not been adequately treated, some patients will lose their double eyelids again some time after the procedure. It is also important to note that the buried line method of eyelid surgery requires a relatively high level of upper eyelid condition, and is suitable for those who have tight upper eyelid skin and subcutaneous tissues that are not bloated. The incision method The incision method involves surgically cutting through the skin of the upper eyelid and then performing a series of treatments on the subcutaneous tissues of the upper eyelid, such as muscle and fat, to create double eyelids. The advantage of this method is that it can correct the bloated upper eyelid tissues of Oriental people, remove the loose skin of those who have loose skin, and partially correct the deficiencies of the inner canthus, so it can be said that the incision method of blepharoplasty is a systematic solution to the deficiencies of the upper eyelid. The disadvantage is that the skin of the upper eyelid is cut, which will leave a shallow scar, and the postoperative recovery time is longer than that of the buried line method. Usually, there is obvious swelling for 1 to 2 weeks, and it will take about 1 to 3 months for the eyelid to fully recover. It is worth noting that the incision method is the most traditional method of blepharoplasty, after decades of improvement, the incision method is now very different from the original, now I often use the incision method will retain the necessary subcutaneous tissue, the suture method is also different from the original, which speeds up the healing of the wound at the same time also greatly reduces the generation of postoperative scars, scars are basically very difficult to see after the complete healing, so there is a scaring of incision method. This is a great way to speed up the healing process and greatly reduce the amount of scarring that occurs after the surgery. Nowadays, the most publicized procedure is the “Korean style blepharoplasty”, and the first thing I hear from many of my patients is “Dr. Liu, I want to do the Korean style 3-point double eyelid”. However, they have no idea what a Korean-style blepharoplasty is, which can lead to a misunderstanding of the treatment. I would like to focus on the essence of the Korean blepharoplasty and its indications. The essence of Korean blepharoplasty is small incision blepharoplasty, which, as the name suggests, involves making multiple (usually three) small (usually 2-4mm) incisions in the upper eyelid, through which the subcutaneous tissues are appropriately processed and then sutured to create double eyelids. Due to the huge beauty market in Korea and the wide range of double eyelid surgeries, Korean doctors summarized this method and published it in magazines, which gained more recognition, thus it is called Korean style blepharoplasty. In fact, in China, the small incision has also been carried out long ago, because the Chinese beauty market development is late, so it is not well known. The Korean style blepharoplasty is actually a blepharoplasty method between the buried thread method and the incision method. Due to the small amount of tissue cut, the postoperative recovery time is shorter than the incision method, and the incision scar is smaller than the incision method, but larger than the buried thread method. The incision scar is smaller than the incision method but larger than the threading method. Also, because of the treatment of the subcutaneous tissue, the postoperative maintenance time of the eyelids is more stable than that of the threading method. However, it should be noted that the applicability of this method is stricter than that of the incision method, and if you have loose upper eyelid skin or bloated upper eyelids, the results will not be good. Through the above summary, I believe that you will have a better understanding of the various types of blepharoplasty, you can find that blepharoplasty is the most important thing is to adapt to the local conditions, according to their own conditions of tailor-made, if you have a blepharoplasty requirements, you can go to the clinic and consult with the doctor face-to-face, according to their own eye conditions to formulate a plan of surgery.
