Complications of thyroid cancer after surgery: one part is the local corresponding changes of thyroid cancer surgery; the other part is the complications related to the postoperative changes of thyroid function. In the former case, some patients may feel tightness in the neck, local edema, and hoarseness. These complications are related to the local damage after surgery and will gradually decrease and improve with time. The latter is due to impaired parathyroid function as a result of surgical resection. Patients may experience post-operative hypocalcemia and convulsions, which need to be relieved by calcium supplementation. In the postoperative period, some patients may develop hypothyroidism and related abnormalities in blood lipids and calcium. In this case, thyroid hormone supplementation and replacement therapy are needed for postoperative hypothyroidism, and these complications should be handled accordingly.
