Recently, our department treated an elderly female patient who had been seen for more than one year for abdominal distension and discomfort and poor diet. In people with a low septal position or a thin body, especially in women, the edge of the spleen can occasionally be palpated, but it is quite soft and without pressure, unlike pathological splenomegaly. (Enlargement of the spleen is the main manifestation of splenic diseases and certain other clinical diseases.) A patient with a giant spleen (clinically, any spleen larger than 250 px below the rib cage is called a giant spleen) has a spleen whose lower border reaches the iliac fossa and whose outer border exceeds the midline of the umbilicus. He was admitted to the hospital for emergency blood tests: leukocytes 303*109/L, HGB 80g/L, PLT 205*109/L. The diagnosis of chronic granulocytic leukemia was confirmed by bone marrow aspiration and related tests. The patient and his family expressed that they felt amazing about the treatment effect and had more confidence in curing the disease.
