Hemiplegia is the main sequelae of stroke, and more than 80% of patients are left with paralysis of one limb, which brings both physical and mental damage. Therefore, the rehabilitation of hemiplegia has long occupied the first and most important position in the rehabilitation department. When should stroke hemiplegic patients start rehabilitation? The industry has long reached a consensus on “early rehabilitation”, which means that the earlier the rehabilitation is carried out, the better the prognosis. “After a patient is out of life-threatening condition and stabilized, rehabilitation should be done after 48 hours for ischemic stroke and 7-14 days for hemorrhagic stroke.” The acute period is 1 month after stroke, which is the golden period of recovery; the recovery period is 1-6 months, which is the platinum period of recovery; and the post-stroke period is 6 months to 2 years, which is the silver period of recovery. Theoretically, rehabilitation within 2 years is effective, but for patients who go to the rehabilitation department for standardized rehabilitation within 6 months (reporter’s note: standardized rehabilitation takes more than 1 month), more than 60% of patients can fully resume self-care, about 20% of patients need a little help to fully take care of themselves, and only 5% need to receive full help. Therefore, the rehabilitation of stroke hemiplegia emphasizes early rehabilitation, full rehabilitation and overall rehabilitation. Overall rehabilitation is to carry out rehabilitation in the gold, platinum and silver phases, and of course, the gold phase has the best effect. Holistic rehabilitation refers to comprehensive rehabilitation in psychological, physical, social and life skills. A systematic and standardized rehabilitation program must also achieve three “6”, that is, at least 6 hours a day, at least 6 days a week, and more than 6 months in a row. Although the concept of “rehabilitation” is not explicitly mentioned in Chinese medicine, the concept of rehabilitation has actually been practiced for a long time. The Department of Acupuncture and Rehabilitation at the Hospital of Integrative Medicine uses a combination of Chinese and Western medicine to guide rehabilitation medicine, which is used in the post-stroke treatment plan for patients with hemiplegia, enabling them to recover more completely and thus effectively reduce recurrence. ”Western medicine focuses on the training of limb functions, while Chinese medicine focuses on the treatment of the causes of stroke.” In the view of Chinese medicine, the unfavorable movement of the limbs caused by stroke is mostly judged as “blockage of blood”, the treatment will be to “unblock the meridians, activate blood to dispel blood stasis” as the method, which is the root of the problem; while the rehabilitation of Western medicine emphasizes the orderly exercise of the limbs, starting from the local, which is the treatment of the symptoms. The combination of the two is to treat both the symptoms and the root cause. For stroke patients who have difficulty moving their limbs, modern rehabilitation offers physical therapy and occupational therapy, which help patients exercise their affected limbs and restore their fine motor skills through specific equipment. If the patient has slurred speech, speech training can be provided at the same time. On the other hand, traditional Chinese medicine is based on the diagnosis and treatment, featuring acupuncture, moxibustion and tui-na, together with oral and fumigation Chinese medicine, to regulate the whole body’s qi and blood to rebalance the patient. The newly opened Traditional Therapy and Rehabilitation Center at the Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital provides a one-stop rehabilitation facility for such patients. The rehabilitation building is located next door to the hospital’s inpatient wing, and stroke patients had to walk a short distance to the rehabilitation center’s training site. The rehabilitation department deliberately avoids bedside rehabilitation, as daily mobility is an important part of rehabilitation, and it is helpful for stroke patients to walk to the training field. In order to achieve satisfactory results, patients with hemiplegia need to be hospitalized within six months after the onset of the stroke, usually for more than one month, at a cost of about 10-20,000 RMB. The main purpose of this one-month period is to restore the patient’s ability to take care of himself, improve his self-confidence, and teach the patient and his family some rehabilitation knowledge. Many family members in the patient can not walk, with the way to carry walking to impose the exercise, helped. “The exercise needs to be done gradually, in stages, for different functions. In hospital rehabilitation, doctors will help patients and their families to establish the correct concept of rehabilitation, and to develop a scientific rehabilitation plan.”
