The main chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is the CHOP regimen plus melphalan. The CHOP regimen is cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, vincristine, and prednisone therapy, which is the classic first-line treatment regimen. The biggest side effect of cyclophosphamide is hemorrhagic cystitis, which occurs usually to be hydrated and alkalized, so patients should be instructed to drink more water and alkalize the urine when using the CHOP regimen, i.e., to keep the urine alkalized with sodium bicarbonate to reduce damage to the mucosa and accelerate the excretion of cyclophosphamide metabolites. Cardiotoxicity is relatively rare. Adriamycin cardiotoxicity is relatively high, so the patient’s cardiac tolerance should be assessed before using this regimen, while vincristine can cause peripheral nerve damage such as numbness of the extremities. The side effects of hormones lie in the fact that taking them for a long time can cause a series of problems such as hypertension, diabetes, gastric ulcers, osteoporosis, etc., but short-term problems are generally not very big and most elderly people can generally tolerate them.
