How long does it take to get the results of an HIV screening test?

The results of HIV screening are usually available on the same day because HIV screening is mainly a test for HIV antibodies, and the methods it uses are usually ELISA, chemiluminescence or immunofluorescence. The sensitivity of this method is still relatively high, reaching more than 99%. If the test is negative, the patient is not infected with HIV; if the test is positive, the patient may be infected with HIV, and further confirmatory tests are needed to determine whether the patient is infected with HIV. If the confirmatory test is negative, the patient is not infected with AIDS; if the confirmatory test is also positive, the patient is infected with AIDS. In this case, HIV-RNA and CD4 and T-lymphocyte counts should be improved, and treatment with antiviral drugs should be started as soon as possible.
