Is occlusive bronchiolitis contagious?

Occlusive bronchiolitis is generally not contagious. It may be contagious when the patient is suffering from a disease caused by a viral infection. Occlusive bronchiolitis is not generally contagious if it is caused by inhalation factors (toxic gases, foreign bodies, gastroesophageal reflux disease, etc.), acute graft-versus-host reaction, autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, dermatomyositis), etc. If caused by viral infections, such as measles virus and adenovirus, it may be contagious. Occlusive bronchiolitis needs to be treated with medication at an early stage to avoid irreversible fibrotic obstruction. It is often treated with glucocorticoids such as methylprednisolone IV, macrolides such as azithromycin, and leukotriene receptor antagonists such as montelukast. If the patient is diagnosed with occlusive bronchiolitis, it is recommended to consult a doctor and follow the doctor’s instructions in order to avoid delaying the condition.
