Ultrasound is of high value in the prenatal diagnosis of placental implantation. Among the signs are the following: disappearance of the normal post-placental hypoechoic gap, thinning of the myometrium behind the placenta and indistinct demarcation from the placenta, <1mm at the thinnest point.
In addition, multiple anechoic cavities are seen within the placenta. By using these few ultrasound signs, which are the most common signs of placental implantation, the doctor can suspect the possibility of placental implantation in a pregnant woman. This is also combined with a clinical history of caesarean section and the presence of placenta praevia, a history of miscarriage, uterine infection and other medical history.
