Why is there a croupy sound when I breathe in bronchitis?

Patients with bronchitis have inflammation in the bronchial walls and surrounding tissues, with large numbers of neutrophils visible during acute attacks, stimulating the secretion of large amounts of mucus. At the same time, repeated damage to the bronchial wall causes remodelling of the bronchial structures, narrowing of the lumen and croup can be heard on auscultation of the lungs.
