What other clinical conditions may be associated with a diagnosis of mitral valve insufficiency?

Heart failure can present early in the acute and later in the chronic; atrial fibrillation is seen in 3/4 of patients with chronic severe mitral valve closure insufficiency; infective endocarditis is more common; and embolism is rare.
