What causes dry cough in children

Dry cough in children may be associated with several causes: i. Infections of Chlamydia and Mycoplasma. If one or both of these infections are present, treat with azithromycin. ii. Cough variant asthma. Diagnostic treatment can be done with albuterol. If the cough improves significantly after the use of albuterol, be alert to cough variant asthma. Third, tuberculosis infection. If the dry cough is accompanied by symptoms of fever, consider the possibility of tuberculosis infection. IV. Sinusitis. Because of the inflammation of sinusitis, secretions back up into the pharynx and irritate the throat causing coughing. If there is pressure pain on the brow and in the hollow of the cheekbone below the eye, sinusitis is likely to be present. It is also very likely that the child’s dry cough is an irritant cough. Consider that it is related to cold air allergy, and be careful not to expose the child to cold air for a long time. If the symptoms are more severe, they can be controlled by taking medication.
