Corticosteroids (hereinafter referred to as “hormones”) have saved many lives since they were first used in clinical practice. Without hormones, it would have been too difficult to save the patients. Hormones have brought toxic side effects to human beings while treating diseases and saving lives, and femoral head necrosis has been transformed from a rare disease to a common disease, and hormonal ischemic necrosis of the femoral head has taken the lead. Statistics show that in recent years, the incidence of osteonecrosis due to the application of large doses of hormones has increased year by year. 59.21% in 1993, 62.30% in 1994, 63.15% in 1995, 63.89% in 1996, and exceeded the 65% mark in 2000! Hormone abuse is internationally recognized as the number one killer of osteonecrosis. In 2003-2004, SARS occurred in China, treated with large doses of hormones and given comprehensive Chinese and Western medicine intervention, but hormonal ischemic necrosis of the femoral head remained high, and the incidence of osteonecrosis was still as high as 31.9%. Hormones induce osteonecrosis in a wide range of multiple pathways and are progressive, and osteonecrosis will continue even if the drug is stopped. Especially for diseases requiring long-term hormone therapy, such as systemic lupus, organ transplantation, rheumatoid disease, etc., these patients have a long time to reach positive equilibrium between osteoporosis, osteonecrosis and bone tissue repair during the treatment process, and are prone to recurrence. Compared with other etiologies, the results in conservative treatment, hip preservation and joint replacement surgery are much worse. How to prevent ischemic necrosis of the femoral head caused by hormones, as ordinary people need to understand some common sense, it is necessary: 1, the application of hormone therapy involves more than 50 kinds of diseases in various disciplines. The ones that must be treated with hormones to save lives are, lupus erythematosus, nephrotic syndrome, post-organ transplantation, acute infectious polyneuritis, retinal disease, head injury, etc. Doctors will find ways to prevent complications and sequelae brought about by hormones, but patients and families should be aware of the dose and time of hormone treatment, and MRI is important within 3~12 months after treatment for early detection and early effective intervention. 2. There is also a unique phenomenon of hormone abuse in China, that is, in the vast rural areas, hormones are used as a “panacea” to cure all diseases. The “three elements” (antimicrobial, hormone, vitamin) treatment is extremely widespread. It is urgent to improve the general medical knowledge in rural areas. 3, available or not must strictly implement the doctor’s orders, such as rheumatic diseases, allergic diseases, the pursuit of short-term effectiveness, their own ignorance, hormones at will, the accumulation of complications. 4, menopause, pregnant women use hormones with caution, the incidence of ischemic necrosis of the femoral head is higher. 5, the most difficult to prevent is the deceptive application: believe in small advertisements; keen on “ancestral secret recipes”; anxious to seek medical help, superstitious “magic special drugs”; eat unfamiliar with the so-called doctor door-to-door sales of drugs, etc.. All these effective powder, capsules, Chinese medicine, the unscrupulous elements have added hormones, do not take at will.
