What is the cause of chills?

Infections, endocrine disorders, peripheral vascular disease, and certain nutrient deficiencies can all cause chills, usually due to inflammation, hypoglycaemia, hypothyroidism, anaemia or peripheral aortitis, Raynaud’s syndrome, thrombo-occlusive vasculitis, occlusive arteriosclerosis, kidney disease, hypopituitarism, adverse drug reactions, alcoholism, etc.
Therefore, when there are chills all over the body, you should promptly visit the hospital for routine blood tests, blood sugar, thyroid function, kidney function, vascular ultrasound, serum iron and vitamin B12, and follow medical advice to treat the cause.
