What is the cause of foot cramps?

The most common cause of foot cramps is calcium deficiency, or calcium deficiency cramps, where the concentration of calcium ions decreases during muscle contraction, resulting in a sustained contraction of the muscle, which in turn causes the muscle to spasm. Foot cramps can also be caused by fatigue, where blood circulation slows down and a build-up of metabolic substances, especially lactic acid, causes the muscles to go into spasm.
