A dry cough with a tickling throat is not necessarily a new form of pneumonia. New forms of pneumonia are characterised by fever, dry cough and weakness, and it is not uncommon for them to present only with an itchy, dry cough. Common causes are pharyngitis, for example, and can be detected by viral nucleic acid testing.
