What should I do if my breast tumor markers are over the limit?

In real life, many people are frightened once they see their medical test results with “tumor marker” indicators exceeding the normal range. Tumor markers are actually substances that are detected by scientific methods and exist in blood, cells, tissues or body fluids, which are related to tumors. Tumor markers can indeed reflect the existence of tumor to a certain extent, but so far there is no tumor marker that can detect 100% of tumor patients. Since it is an indicator to check tumor, once the indicator is abnormal, it always makes people feel especially nervous, and some people even directly link themselves with cancer once they see the indicator is abnormal. In fact, tumor markers do have an early warning function, but they cannot be used as the main diagnostic basis for tumors. In fact, tumor markers do have an early warning function, but they cannot be used as the main diagnostic basis for cancer. For example, chronic hepatitis, prostate enlargement, endometriosis and certain medications may interfere with the test results. To put it differently, tumor markers are not necessarily high even if you have a tumor. Nowadays, the highest specificity of fetoprotein, which is used to detect liver cancer, is only 70-80%. The diagnosis of breast tumor cannot rely on tumor marker examination alone, only continuous observation of dynamic changes of tumor markers can be used as a basis for judgment. If a certain index is mildly elevated in one test result, it is not necessary to be overly nervous, but should be analyzed by a specialist to exclude some factors affecting the test result and be rechecked after 1-2 months. If the dynamic test result continues to rise, it indicates the possible existence of tumor and prompt imaging should be performed. In general, the possibility of tumor in mild elevation is relatively low, so further examination can be considered or dynamic observation can be done, and we should not be too nervous, but we should not take it lightly. Severe elevation or continuous elevation of several indicators indicates a high possibility of tumor, so you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
